OK Preps Game of the Week:
It’s the first OKPreps Game of the Week of the 2016 season, and it’s a good one. The four-time defending 6A-D1 state champion Jenks Trojans will go on the road to face off with the Owasso Rams. It’s the next installment of a series that has been owned by the Trojans. We didn’t see these two teams square off in 2015 after the game was cancelled due to weather. However, in 2014, we saw one of the more memorable regular season meetings between these two teams. Not because the game was an instant classic. But because of the outcome. For the first time in over 20 years, the Rams knocked off the Trojans 7-6. Jenks would get the ultimate revenge later in the playoffs when they knocked off the Rams 42-14, on their way to their third of four straight titles.
Both teams will be ready to get the season kicked off on Friday night. Jenks is coming off four consecutive state titles but it’s a new era for Jenks. They have to replace ten starters on defense and the school’s most successful quarterback in Cooper Nunley. No quarterback won more games, threw for more yards or touchdowns than Nunley did in his career. The Trojans also have to find a way to replace the versatility and performance of Dillon Stoner. They do return Arkansas commit Jordon Curtis who will double as a running back and is the lone starter returning on defense at corner. They also return future D1 tight end Reese Leitao. In the spring, the Trojans experimented with using Leitao as a defensive end. Don’t be surprised to see that on Friday night.
